The Senate president, Bukola Saraki, has cleared the air on the ‘missing’ budget.

The Senate president , Bukola Saraki has cleared the air on the controversies surrounding the missing budget.

The former Kwara state governor, in a series of tweet, reacted to the reports of missing budget at the National Assembly.

He informed that ad hoc committee set up to investigate the claims of the missing 2016 budget proposal reported that the Senate received two versions of the document from the Presidency; one directly from President Muhammadu Buhari and the other from the senior special assistant to the president on National Assembly matters, Ita Enang.

Saraki informed however, that only the document submitted by the president will be accepted by the lawmakers.

Read his tweets below:

We came to a resolution that Since we have 2 versions of the #2016Budget we will only accept the one presented by
@NGRPresident

The budget was never missing. While the President submitted one, the Special Adviser presented another one. Hence reason for investigation
— Bukola Saraki (@bukolasaraki) January 14, 2016

Budget was presented on the last day of office in 2015, on the 1st day back in 2016, we noticed and immediately called for an investigation

This new revelation by Saraki is a sharp contrast to an allegation by the head, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) new media, Adeyanju Deji, who said the president submitted an empty box to the senators during the budget presentation last December.

Corruption will be tackled in Nigeria - Soyinka

Prolific writer Prof. Wole Soyinka says that he is confident that corruption will be tackled in Nigeria despite the fact that corruption has chosen to fight back. Prof. Soyinka said this when he was paid a visit by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, at his residence in Lagos today January 9th, 2016.
"We have not had a case where it had been alleged and increasingly proven that money supposed to be spent on defending ourselves, our nation, our neighbourhood, has been shared among individuals. We never had experience where we were in a state of critical emergency where children are being kidnapped under our noses. Never had there been a situation where we are helpless and our soldiers are sent to the front to defend our very existence and we are not backing them up with conduct that shows integrity and commitment. Because of these reasons, corruption is really desperate and has chosen to fight back, but I am confident that corruption will be tackled," Soyinka said.
He advised the Federal Government not to relent in its effort at bringing all those who looted the nation’s treasury to justice, adding that it should not be cowed by deliberate attempts to frustrate the anti-corruption crusade.
